For 4 persons:
Ingredients:
Masoor dal (3/4th cup)
One onion (sliced small)
Two pods garlic (finely chopped)
One tomato (chopped)
One bay leaf
Oil (2 teaspoons)
Salt (To taste)
1. Wash and soak the dal for 30 minutes.
2. In a pressure cooker, heat the oil.
3. Reduce heat and throw in the garlic first, then the onions and fry lightly in low heat till the aroma pervades your senses
4. Pour the soaked dal along with water.
(We need to have 4 cups of water with 3/4 cups of dal.)
5. Add a pinch of turmeric and salt according to taste
6. Throw in the chopped tomatoes
7. Close the lid of the pressure cooker and allow the first whistle to sound
8. Lower heat and cook for 8 minutes
9. Transfer in a bowl after the pressure goes down completely. Whisk to get it in homogeneous consistency.
10. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
Your delicious nutritious dal is ready to serve with steaming rice.

Hi Kamalika-
While I was visiting my father in India last year I discovered how wonderful masoor dal is, and I'd love to try to make some myself. However, I don't have a pressure cooker. Do you think there's an alternative way I could make it? Thanks so much for your great recipes!

Yes, of course you can do the whole procedure in any pan. I recommend a pressure cooker to preserve nutrients and also to save energy.
